a little fall garden

we visited this wonderful organic garden in east point today. i walked around, just sucking in inspiration. on the way there, i made a wrong turn and stumbled upon the perfect table and chair for my garden! the greatest finds are usually accidents.

i am excited and overwhelmed at the same time. our yard is huge! i have an abundance of ideas and inspirations, now i'm just looking for the time and energy. and the knowledge. there is so much to learn about growing food and plants. we are pacing ourselves.

we have started with a little railroad garden... one that belongs to the sister and the brother and the little brother. they planted pansies, decorated the plot with acorns and stones and watered them repeatedly. the dog dug them up and they planted them again.

a day in the garden

as we drive through the neighborhood, i always complain about how there are no gardens in all the empty lots. i always say i would love to participate in a community garden.

assata and i were on our way to the bank and passed a huge garden, and saw someone working in it. we got out and asked who's garden it was. "it's our garden," he said, and told me about a grassroots organization that plants gardens around the area, has volunteers to maintain it, and holds saturday cookouts to work collectively, and enjoy the fruits of their labor.

he gave assata two sunflowers, which she put in two cute tea bottles i was saving to use for vases. she put them on her mantle. he also gave assata some cherry tomatoes, and she loves to eat them just like little grapes. we go some basil and green peppers, and collard greens!

later in the evening, i walked assata and dhani over to the garden, and we worked out there for a couple hours...watering, pruning, taking pictures...
